Vantage XR review: mixed reality gets lighter, but not cheaper
The most comfortable headset we’ve worn and a genuinely useful passthrough mode — at a price that keeps it niche.
By Rafael Mendoza

The Vantage XR is proof that headsets are getting better in the ways that matter. It is lighter, sharper and far more comfortable than anything we tested last year. It is also, at $1,299, still a luxury.
Comfort first
Moving the battery to the back of the strap balances the weight beautifully. Hour-long sessions left no marks on our faces, and the adjustable fit worked for every tester, including two who wear glasses.
Passthrough that works
Colour passthrough is sharp and nearly lag-free, which makes mixed-reality apps — a virtual monitor over your real desk, a board game on your real table — feel practical rather than gimmicky.
“For the first time, we forgot we were wearing a headset. Then we remembered the price.”
